Paul Read - Foula

Winner of the Guardian Student Photographer of the Year 2006, Paul Read spent a month on Foula in 2009.  His reason for doing so was not for the isolation but to live within an isolated community and gain an understanding of why and how people lived there.

His exhibition is a photo documentary of his time on the isle, giving an insight into life on Foula in 2009.

Iain Stewart - Bothy Walk in 2009

Edinburgh based photographer, Iain Stewart began visiting and staying in bothies in spring 2009, drawing inspiration from the solace and contemplation these spaces encourage. He sees them as sanctuaries in the wild left unlocked to offer shelter but also as deserted crofts, which speak powerfully of their history.

His exhibition consists of a series of photographs taken from bothies, which capture the atmosphere of these isolated buildings.
