Shetland Museum and Archives wins Art Fund Prize public poll

The Shetland Museum and Archives has won the Culture24 poll which revealed who the public thought should win the Art Fund Prize.  The poll gave the public the chance to vote for any of the ten long listed candidates and the Museum and Archives took nearly 50% of the votes.

Jimmy Moncrieff, General Manager Shetland Amenity Trust, said: “We are all very proud to have won the public poll, and with such an overwhelming majority.  This level of support is phenomenal and the entire team would like to thank everyone who voted for us.”

The poll was not the only place the public showed their support.  The Art Fund Prize asked the public to contact them with comments on all the long listed entries and Shetland’s nomination received nearly 250 messages of support, more than any other nominee.  Tommy Watt, Museum Curator, was delighted: “The range of comments from the public is fantastic, highlighting all aspects of the facilities and services and how we have become a real community asset.  People from all over the world were taking part, telling the judges what they think of the Museum and Archives, right down to the kid friendly step stools in the toilets!  We are delighted to have received so many lovely comments, showing that what we are doing is working.  We really cannot thank everyone enough for their support, especially the local community.”
