TRADE AND INDUSTRY
Shetland industries have been mostly small scale, but have brought money to the islands, and have added variety to Shetlander’s experience of work. This area will show how traditional trades such as carpentry and masonry became commercial industries. The change in agricultural practices has been particularly dramatic, and the ways in which mechanisation revolutionised farming practices forever is explained. The Oil industry now plays a crucial part in Shetland’s economy: models and contemporary objects show its many effects on local society.
